CHICAGO — September 16, 2026 — Kin, the direct-to-consumer provider of insurance and home finance solutions for homeowners, has been named to Forbes’ 2027 list of America’s Best Insurance Companies in the homeowners insurance category.
The recognition is especially meaningful for Kin because it is grounded in customers’ experiences. Survey participants evaluated insurers based on satisfaction, loyalty, likelihood to recommend, customer service, cost, transparency, digital services and claims support — areas central to Kin’s direct-to-consumer model.
“This recognition matters because it comes from the people we’re actually building Kin for: homeowners,” said Kin Founder and CEO Sean Harper. “Home insurance is a hard problem, especially in places where the weather is getting worse and homeowners have fewer choices. But what customers want from us is pretty simple. They want us to answer the phone. They want to understand what they’re buying. And when they have a claim, they want us to be there and pay it quickly. We work really hard to do those basic things well, and we’re bringing that same approach to other ways we can help them, including auto insurance and home financing.”
Kin continues to expand its reach in catastrophe-exposed markets and insures homeowners across 14 states, including Oklahoma, where it launched in April.
That expansion reflects the company’s continued growth in high-risk markets. Today, it has:
More than 250,000 home insurance policies in force
More than $100 billion in total insured property value
Operations in 14 states that together represent more than half of the addressable U.S. home insurance market
Its offerings also extend beyond home insurance to include auto insurance and home financing options that help people purchase or refinance a home and access the equity they have built.
Kin works directly with customers through licensed agents on its own payroll rather than relying on an outside agency network. This direct model gives the company greater control over the customer experience, from explaining coverage to responding when a policyholder reports a loss.
Mike C., a Kin home insurance customer from Wesley Chapel, Florida, said, “Kin has displayed great responsiveness, professionalism and care each time I have contacted them — once for a claim and once for a policy change. I’m a native Floridian and have had more than one insurance company leave me high and dry, even after many years without filing a claim. Kin has been a pleasant surprise!”
USA TODAY also recognized Kin in 2026 for earning customers’ trust and delivering strong service. Kin was named to the publication’s Most Trusted Brands, Most Trusted Brands by Parents and America’s Best Customer Service in Financial Services lists.
Known for its positive customer experience, Kin earns a 4.7 out of 5 rating on Google based on more than 9,362 customer reviews, an A+ and 4.8 out of 5 rating with the Better Business Bureau based on 2,034 customer reviews and an "Excellent" rating of 4.9 out of 5 on Trustpilot.com based on 8,334 customer reviews (as of September 16, 2026).
Forbes’ 2027 list of America’s Best Insurance Companies, produced with market research firm Statista, was based on survey responses from more than 18,000 people across the United States who had held an insurance policy within the previous three years. The results were combined with responses from the prior two years, which received lower weights, to reflect performance over time.
Across the five insurance categories evaluated, 112 of more than 3,100 eligible U.S. insurers were recognized. The full Forbes America’s Best Insurance Companies 2027 ranking is available on Forbes.com.
