To help in your search to find the best home insurance, we reviewed a bunch of Florida insurers, including Centauri Insurance. We took a look at online reviews from real customers, complaint trends from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), and average pricing. Here's what we found.
Centauri Insurance is a Florida homeowners insurance carrier that offers both residential and commercial insurance. The company says it aims to “provide financial protection and peace of mind for our stakeholders.” The company's Demotech rating was recently under review after terminating its acquisition by Avatar Insurance.
Centauri doesn’t have a lot of online reviews – only 10 are available on Clearsurance with a 2.14-star average rating. Positive reviews cite a good claims experience, getting a check within a week of a home estimate. Another review states their home was hit by lightning and the claims process was good. Negative reviews note a major problem with homeowners and equipment breakdown insurance where an AC unit broke was not covered. The company does not appear to respond to reviews, good or bad.
By contrast, we have more than 1,00 online customer reviews between Google and Trustpilot, with an average rating of 4.8. We ask customers to leave reviews so potential customers can learn from their experience (and we can, too!). This is how we learn and grow as a company: based on the feedback of the folks we insure.
Bottom line: Customer reviews show potential customers what they can expect when they work with an insurance company.
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) maintains a Complaint Index, a database of formal complaints made against insurance companies. The Complaint Index assigns each company a ratio to reflect the number of complaints based on market share and size. This helps consumers compare complaint trends for any company of any size.
The median score is 1, which represents a "normal" number of complaints based on the company's size. A score of 2 means the company faces twice as many complaints as a company its size might expect. A score lower than 1 means a company faces fewer complaints.
Centauri Insurance fares better than most Florida insurers with a complaint score of 0.95, well within the "expected" complaint numbers. Kin, by contrast, has a score of 0.
Centauri Insurance is more expensive than most homeowners insurance companies in Florida, a state already known for its expensive premiums. For a newly built $300,000 home, Centauri's average yearly premium is $2,724. That's about 30 percent or $700 more expensive than Kin's at $2,083 a year.

Claims are where an insurance company shows their mettle – do they pay claims fairly and quickly? We can’t tell much about Centauri’s claims process from the reviews or the Complaint Index. We do feel they must have some consistency of fairness if their Complaint Index is below most other Florida insurers.
For our end, we know that nothing is more frustrating than feeling left in the dark after filing a claim. That's why we prioritize communication, transparency, and technology in our approach to processing claims.
We keep policyholders informed throughout their claim – our executives have even been known just to reach out and check in on folks! We also make it easy for customers to get their repairs done professionally through our Managed Repair Network. This connects policyholders with a network of service professionals who are local, licensed, and insured.
